The other and longer name for this gemstone is Crazy Lace Agate. Crazy Agate is part of Quartz family of minerals and its Chalcedony. The colors of Crazy Agate vary, and the patterns can include brown, white or orange colors. Some pieces can also have hints of gold, gray or black. It is common for Crazy Agate to have infusions of aluminum and iron.

The history of this gem is very rich, and archaeologists find pieces of Crazy Agate even from Neolithic Age. It is estimated that Crazy Agate was formed approximately 65 million years ago or even later. Throughout the years, it was popular stone in ancient Egypt and Greece and people used as an ornament or healing component in Babylon town. The largest resources of this gem are found in the Northern Mexico – Chihuahua area. Due to its mining location, Crazy Agate is commonly referred to as Mexican Agate as well.
